Spain are heading to the FIFA World Cup final for the first time in 16 years after defeating France 2-0 in the semifinals on Tuesday, July 14.
Mikel Oyarzabal opened the scoring for Spain from the penalty spot in the 22nd minute. Pedro Porro then added a second goal in the second half to secure Spain’s place in the championship match.
Spain’s only previous World Cup final appearance came in 2010 in South Africa, when they defeated the Netherlands 1-0 to win their first world title.
The second semifinal will take place on Wednesday, July 15, with England facing Argentina in Atlanta at 12 p.m. PT. The two nations have met five times before at the World Cup. England won in 1962, 1966, and 2002, while Argentina won in 1986 and also advanced on penalties in 1998.
Argentina enter the match in strong attacking form, having scored two or more goals in their last 12 World Cup games. England also have two of the tournament’s top performers, with Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham both scoring six goals at the 2026 World Cup.
The bronze final will be played on Saturday, July 18, in Miami, with France facing the loser of Argentina vs England. The World Cup final will be played on Sunday, July 19, in New Jersey, where Spain will face the winner of Argentina vs England.
